Wall panel made by Jean de LESPINASSE (1896-1979), composed of 8 ceramic with polychrome enamelled decoration inlaid on a rosewood veneer .
The scene depicts a horseman with lance and shield, riding a rearing black stallion. Beside him, a groom tries to calm the animal. The clothing and armor of both the man and the horse, with their geometric shapes and primary colors, are reminiscent of oriental designs.
The sign is monogrammed "JdL" in the bottom right corner.
Jean de Lespinasse (JdL) was a renowned ceramicist of the 1940s. At the end of the war, he opened his local craft workshop and later founded SOCFRA with his wife. They crossed paths with Roger Capron. Jean de Lespinasse is known for his large-scale works and his mastery of ceramic art, particularly his use of matte and glossy glazes.
