Table lamp featuring a chromed wire base supporting a "cocoon" membrane lampshade. Designed by Achille Castiglioni. An original model, similar to the more widely produced Gatto lamp. The creations of Achille Castiglioni (Milan, 1918 – Milan, 2002) were often inspired by everyday life. He used ordinary materials such as extruded aluminum and stainless steel. Achille Castiglioni's genius lay in his ability to use a minimal amount of material while creating forms with maximum impact. Along with other designers like Marco Zanuso and Ettore Sottsass, Castiglioni fostered a tradition of craftsmanship and a family passion for sensuality and expressive forms. With his brothers, designers Livio and Pier Giacomo, Achille Castiglioni contributed to winning the Milan Triennial and the Compasso d'Oro award. One of his favorite design strategies was to place a familiar form in an unexpected context. Castiglioni possessed a powerful creativity that gave rise to a range of diverse lamps, such as the Taccia lamp, the Snoopy lamp, and the imposing and very famous Arco lamp.
