TWO PLATES IN PORCELAIN OF PARIS, 19TH CENTURY
Two plates in Paris porcelain with polychrome decoration, one with a portrait of the Marquise de Sévigné (1626-1696), the other of the Duchesse Adélaïde de Bourgogne (1685-1712). Each portrait is set in a wreath of flowers with a blue ribbon. The wing, with its midnight-blue background, is richly decorated with polychrome flowers and gold arabesques, enamelled in relief in the Bresse enamel style. Very fashionable in the 19th century, Bresse enamel reached its apogee with the Universal Exhibitions, and was featured in the finery of the socialites of the time. Signed on the reverse: "Mlle de Sévigné" and "Adélaïde D[uch]esse de Bourgogne". Blue mark with two interlaced Ls and the letter C. Nineteenth-century Paris porcelain.
