Two polychrome porcelain plates from Paris, one with a central portrait of the Marquise de Sévigné (1626-1696) and the other of the Duchess Adélaïde of Burgundy (1685-1712). Each portrait is depicted within a wreath of flowers with a blue ribbon. The rim, with a midnight blue background, is richly decorated with polychrome flowers and gold arabesques in relief enamel in the style of Bresse enamels. Highly fashionable in the 19th century, Bresse enamel reached its peak with the World's Fairs and graced the jewelry of the fashionable women of the time. Signed on the reverse: "Mlle de Sévigné" and "Adélaïde D[uch]esse de Bourgogne". Mark in blue with two interlaced Ls and the letter C. 19th-century Paris porcelain.
