Large Napoleon III style mirror, marked by its eclecticism, between baroque opulence and rigorous symmetry.
Shapes & Decorations :
- Structure
The mirror consists of a rectangular frame, framing the main glass, side uprights, richly decorated with relief motifs, and at the top a sculpted and gilded pediment, adorned with garlands, a coat of arms (oval shield, framed with foliage and scrolls), and fire pots (stylized antique vases, from which sculpted flames escape)
- Materials
The wooden and stucco frame is gilded with gold leaf. The glass is mercury-coated, a technique used until the 19th century.
State of Conservation :
In good condition. The gold leaf has a slightly worn patina, attesting to the age of the mirror.
