vase-sculpture decorated with a woman and a satyr in relief against a naturalistic background. It has been converted into a lamp and electrified. Signed " Jules Méliodon " and dated 1896 near the base. Marked " LOUCHET " on the reverse of the base. Art Nouveau . Very attractive pleated and embroidered lampshade.
Jules Meliodon (1867-after 1940) was a French sculptor, a student of Falguière, Fremiet, Barrou, and Messagé. He participated in the 1902 Salon, where he received an honorable mention. In 1933, Meliodon worked in Philadelphia on the figures for the Board of Education building. He was a professor of modeling at the University of Pennsylvania.
