An important Louis XIV style tripod stand in carved and richly ornamented giltwood, forming a torchère stand. The triangular stem is decorated with candelabra motifs, finials, lambrequins, and shells, and supports a circular wooden top with gadroons. The whole rests on a tripod base with acanthus leaf scrolls. Its tripartite design gives this stand a light and elegant appearance. This torchère stand, originally designed to hold a candelabra, will beautifully showcase a sculpture or a decorative vase.
