An important Rococo mirror with a scalloped edge and carved, molded, and gilded wooden frames. The dynamic decoration features garlands of flowers, acanthus leaf scrolls, clasps and volutes, as well as Rococo roses and shells. The frames, formed of large volutes, add further movement to this Baroque mirror from the second half of the 19th century. The mirror can be hung or used as a mantel mirror.
What characterizes the Louis XV style?
The Louis XV style, also known as Rocaille, draws inspiration from Italian Baroque and the rock motifs created in bronze and earthenware at the beginning of the 18th century. The Rocaille style, with its elegant and refined curves, developed primarily between 1730 and 1760. Designers turned away from order and symmetry in favor of whimsical curves and Rocaille elements.
