A Louis XV style curved display cabinet veneered in rosewood, amaranth, and satinwood, decorated with a lozenge-patterned frieze and marquetry of tied bouquets of flowers and vases of blooms. Satinwood is an exotic wood with a yellow background and red or yellow-gray and green-gray veins, used in cabinetmaking and marquetry. Once polished, it develops a satin-like luster, hence the name "satinwood." Amaranth and rosewood are tropical woods widely used in marquetry during the 18th century, allowing for the creation of shimmering compositions.
Our display cabinet features beautiful gilt and chased bronze mounts decorated with jagged acanthus leaves, shells, and florets. It rests on four scrolled, foliate feet. This parlor cabinet opens at the front with two glazed doors in the upper section, a drop-down drawer forming a writing desk with two smaller drawers inside, and two glazed doors in the lower section. The two glass-fronted cabinets reveal a shaped interior with three shelves for displaying tableware and collectibles.
Condition report : In very good overall condition, with marquetry in excellent condition. The display case retains its two original keys. The bronze has a few very minor oxidation spots. The drawer lock is not functional. Curtain rods adapted to the shape of the glass are provided, allowing for the addition of pleated curtains. The leather on the drop-down door, currently pistachio green, can be replaced.
