A very fine Louis XVI style marble clock with rich gilt-bronze decoration, surmounted by a vase overflowing with fruit and foliage, its foliate handles supporting garlands. The dial is set within a pedestal flanked by two patinated bronze putti with scrolling leaves, their faces slightly turned to the side, one holding a flute. The clock rests on a stepped base with a central projection decorated with branches, foliage, and drapery. The pedestal is richly ornamented with pine cones, foliate scrolls, and a ram's head. On the main face, two winged cherubs embrace against a background of flowering scrolls, foliage, and flowers in gilt bronze, while on the side faces, two vases in niches overflow with foliate scrolls and branches. The white enamel dial, with Arabic numerals for the hours, is decorated with scalloped edges framing a central openwork star motif and lance-shaped hands. The whole is raised on four toupie feet with foliate decoration and two double hoof feet. Original movement in working order. 19th century, circa 1860. Dimensions: W: 31cm, D: 10.5cm, H: 46cm.
