Modular "CSS" bookcase in white lacquered wood and stainless steel, by Georges Nelson, dating from the 1970s. It comprises four uprights for floor and ceiling mounting, supporting seven shelves and five drawers. Manufactured by Herman Miller for Mobilier International. The overall height can be reduced (adjustable by +/- 2 cm). All components are attached to the uprights using metal fasteners. Original label: "Mobilier International 162 bld Voltaire Paris".
George Nelson (1908-1986) was an American designer renowned for his contribution to the international success of the Herman Miller furniture company. He created numerous iconic pieces of the 20th century. Among his most famous designs are the Marshmallow sofa (1956), the MAA chair (1958) in fiberglass and chromed steel, and the Coconut chair (1954). Design period, circa 1970.
