A majestic mirror with a richly carved and gilded frame decorated with scrolling foliage, pearl friezes, acanthus leaves, and shells. The pediment is adorned with two sculpted cherubs playing music, positioned on either side of a flowered censer, each holding a musical instrument (panpipes and a lyre), classical symbols of the arts. The lower section is also decorated with two putti playing amidst garlands of fruit.
Decorative work typical of the Napoleon III era, inspired by the neoclassical models of the reign of Louis XVI, but with a touch of exuberance and a style that favours sumptuousness and opulence.
Condition report: in very good structural condition. Original gilding cleaned and retouched.
