Two Rococo style armchairs, characterized by lightness and movement. Their sinuous and asymmetrical shape reflects the influence of the arts during the reign of Louis XV, where furniture was designed to follow the curves of the body and integrate harmoniously into refined interiors.
The armchairs are elegant and compact, designed for intimate living rooms or boudoirs. Their medium size allows for versatile use, both for conversation and relaxation.
Shapes & decorations :
- Convertible file "Gendarme's Hat"
The file adopts a silhouette, called "gendarme's hat" because of its resemblance to the bicorne worn by officers of the time.
- Seat and Upholstery
The seat is wide and slightly concave, upholstered in turquoise blue velvet. The armchairs are complemented by removable seat cushions whose shape perfectly matches the seat.
- Armrests
The armrests curve outwards before gently folding inwards, providing natural support for the arms.
- Base:
The 4 feet are curved and carved with rocaille motifs (shells, leaves, flowers).
Atmosphere and Use :
This type of armchair was designed for the elegant, feminine interiors of the 18th century, where comfort and beauty were inseparable. They would fit perfectly into:
- A boudoir or music room, combined with light wood paneling, gilt-framed mirrors and silky fabrics.
- A rococo bedroom, with a four-poster bed, silk draperies and curved chests of drawers.
- A cabinet of curiosities, surrounded by Sèvres porcelain, miniature paintings and lacquered furniture.
