An important pair of decorative sculptures in white porcelain biscuit, depicting two draped women in the antique style accompanied by winged putti. One, holding a large sunflower, raises her arm in a gesture of unveiling, while the child embraces her. The other, in a more contemplative pose, inclines her head towards the putto who presses against her cheek. The precise modeling, the controlled sensuality of the forms, and the abundance of drapery are characteristic of the Neo-Baroque style prevalent in the 19th century, following in the footsteps of the creations of Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse. The molded bases incorporate architectural and ornamental elements, including lion heads in high relief. An incised mark beneath the base, depicting a radiant sun, suggests a European origin, probably French or German.
