An antique bronze oil lamp with a golden-brown patina, decorated with birds on branches and flowers in relief in the Chinese style. These elements are colored in various shades of brown, ochre, green, and red. The lamp rests on four scrolled feet, each surmounted by a Foo dog. Foo dogs—also known in the West as Foo lions—are the imperial guardian lions of China, traditionally called "shi" in China. It is complemented by a glass candle holder engraved with thyrses and ivy leaves. Two lamps are available, forming a pair. Circa 1880
Condition report: This pair of lamps is in very good condition, with some signs of wear on the bronze. They have been electrified and are in working order.
