A very fine pair of gilt bronze cups, richly decorated with palmettes, florets, and openwork foliage, on a gadrooned base ending in pine cones. Two exquisitely chased dolphins, back to back, support each cup. The whole rests on a raised rectangular base, adorned with stylized water leaves and waves, flanked by foliate scrolls linked by twisted florets. The four feet are shaped like flower buds. This pair of cups is distinguished by the remarkable quality of the chasing.
