A pair of substantial gilt bronze wall sconces with three highly sculpted arms, in the Rococo style, dating from the Napoleon III period. Bronze allowed artisans under Louis XV to display their greatest imagination, combining various Rococo motifs and emphasizing movement in their compositions. Circa 1880
The reign of Louis XV was one of imagination, fantasy, movement, the primacy of decoration over form, of the curve over the straight line; it was the omnipresence of rocaille motifs mixed with flora and fauna.
These Napoleon III wall sconces reproduce the fine chiseling of bronzes from the Louis XV period, as well as its Rococo ornamental style.
