A pair of Louis XV style two-light candlesticks in gilt and chased bronze. The serpentine stem is formed by a bronze putto with a brown patina, holding two gilt bronze scrolls of twisted acanthus leaves in its arms. The exuberantly shaped, aleatoric candle arms lend considerable movement to these quintessential Rococo candlesticks. The candle cups, crafted in the form of buds, crown this pair of Rococo-style pedestal candlesticks. The whole rests on four small feet chased with openwork foliage. These two table candlesticks were made in the second half of the 19th century, a time when the Rococo style was widely revived and amplified during the reign of Napoleon III.
