A pair of Medici vases in opaline , decorated with two polychrome medallions depicting sheaves of flowers. A wreath of anemones and forget-me-nots painted in gold and blue adorns the rim of the body. This floral motif is framed by lines, stylized floral motifs, and branches painted in gold, which highlight the neck and the base of the body.
Exquisitely crafted, this decoration was executed by the workshop of Jean-Baptiste Desvignes (1786-1826), a painter and gilder specializing in glass, crystal, and porcelain, who became renowned for his technique of painting on opal crystal using gold or silver leaf and exclusively plant-based pigments. Pieces from his workshop are characterized by the use of matte tones of dark blue and red, with a predilection for gilded surfaces that predominate in the form of exquisitely drawn palmettes, florets, and garlands.
