An important pair of paintings by Léopold Durangel depicting two hunting scenes: a hare and a pheasant, shown in natural landscapes. The painter pays particular attention to the rendering of the plumage and fur, while the warm tones and hunting accessories enhance the still-life atmosphere.
One of the works is signed and dated in the lower left corner "LEOPOLD DURANGEL 67", the other bears the signature "LEOPOLD DURANGEL" in the same location. The date "67" corresponds to 1867 (the date the paintings were created).
The paintings are presented in very imposing blackened wood frames with gilt highlights. Léopold Durangel, a French painter born in Marseille in 1828, worked in Paris. Institutional sources differ on his year of death: the Musée d'Orsay indicates 1891, while Paris Musées gives approximately 1898.
