This imposing and beautiful pair of sideboards is part of a rare and important Regency-style dining room set in molded and carved oak. The tops and bottoms are of breccia marble with a wooden crossbar. This set is for sale on our website and also includes:
- a pair of single-door display cabinets with curved sides
- a table, a set of nine chairs, and a pair of armchairs
The sculpture, of exceptional quality, comes from the Château de la Haute Forêt in Bréal-sous-Montfort and belonged to the collection of Édouard Nignon. Circa 1920
The Château, built in 1857 in a style that blends Gothic and Renaissance elements, is a listed historical monument with its remarkably well-preserved interior: floors, paneling, ceilings, and fireplaces. Édouard Nignon, who commissioned our dining room suite in 1919, lived in the Château until his death in 1934. He was a renowned French chef with extensive experience and a European reputation. He served Tsar Nicholas II and Emperor Franz Joseph of Austria. From humble origins, he used his talent to rise through the ranks of the culinary world and win over the most prominent figures of his time. His cookbook, Éloges de la cuisine française (In Praise of French Cuisine ), published in 1933, was a great success and remains in print and sought after by aspiring chefs today.
