Important pair of decorative sculptures in white biscuit , featuring two women draped in the Antique style, accompanied by winged putti. One, holding a large sunflower, raises her arm in a gesture of unveiling, while the child embraces her. The other, more contemplative, bows her head to the putto pressing against her cheek. The precise modelling, controlled sensuality of form and abundance of drapery are in keeping with the neo-baroque style of the 19th century, in the tradition of Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse. The molded bases incorporate architectural and ornamental elements, including lion heads in high relief. A recessed mark on the underside of the base, depicting a radiant sun, suggests a European production, probably French or German.
