A polychrome alabaster bust of a young woman, signed "Gory." The young woman wears a hairstyle adorned with braided flowers and gazes downwards in an expression reminiscent of classical busts. Her bust is carved from slightly darker alabaster, creating a beautiful contrast between her skin and the draped bodice. The garment is decorated with chiseling in a frieze of foliage and flowers in the Art Nouveau style. At the back, a chignon divides her hair into two braids. The visible veining of the alabaster lends a unique character to this charming sculpture of a woman. The piece rests on a chamfered pedestal, itself carved on the front with flowers, leaves, and branches. This sculpture is signed by the Italian sculptor Affortunato Gory, active between 1895 and 1925.
