A white, blue, and gold hard-paste porcelain centerpiece by the Samson factory, with an oblong base on which two kneeling, draped caryatids support the gilded basket. The basket is decorated with openwork interlacing and palmettes arranged in a frieze. This porcelain centerpiece bears an apocryphal red stamp on the reverse, reading "Manufacture de SM l'Impératrice PL DAGOTY à Paris." Dagoty produced similar fruit baskets, supported by caryatids, with great success, and these were reproduced by Samson. These pieces, imitating Dagoty's designs (fruit baskets, plates, swan cups, and dinner services), bear the same mark inscribed in red: "Manufacture de SM l'Impératrice PL Dagoty à Paris." Late 19th century, circa 1890. Dimensions: L: 34cm, W: 34cm, H: 34.5cm. In good overall condition, with a small chip on the base and a minor glaze flaw on one foot.
