This set of four Napoleon III period salon armchairs incorporates some codes of the Louis XV style while retaining the rigid forms of classicism.
Shapes & decorations :
- Structure
The slightly concave backrest offers both flexible and enveloping support. The armrests curve outwards and end in scrolls, while the legs flare out in curves.
- Materials
The frame is made of wood carved with plant motifs (acanthus leaves, laurel branches, stylized flowers, and ivy scrolls). The armchairs are upholstered in a floral fabric in shades of cardinal red and ivory. The textile decoration consists of large bouquets of intertwined flowers and foliage. Upholstery tacks, placed along the edges, hold the fabric in place and accentuate the curves of the seat.
State of preservation:
In very good condition, reupholstered.
