A very large panoramic canvas depicting "The Journey of the Holy Family to Egypt" by Georges Och, a French landscape painter born in 1798. The biblical scene recounts Joseph's flight with Mary and the infant Jesus to Egypt to escape the persecution of Herod I, King of Judea. The canvas was exhibited at the Salon of 1848 (no. 3472 in the catalogue) under the title "Journey of the Holy Family to Egypt, Historical Landscape." Signed at the bottom center: "G. Och," and dated 1847. Louis-Philippe period, circa 1847. Dimensions: W: 378 cm, D: 4 cm, H: 264 cm. In very good condition, the canvas has been restored.
