Large Carrara marble sculpture signed Barrias for Louis Ernest Barrias (1841-1905), depicting a young musician. He is seated on a cushion with his tassels resting on a pedestal, playing a three-stringed instrument. It rests on a 19 cm x 19 cm base.
Louis-Ernest Barrias, born on April 13, 1841 in Paris and died on February 4, 1905 in the same city, was a French sculptor from a family of artists. After studying at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, he went to Rome and became one of the great hopes of French sculpture.
