A bronze group with a nuanced brown patina depicting a wounded Amazon, fallen from her horse. She still carries her quiver of arrows, and her pose is highly sensual. This suggestive image of a nude woman with generous curves, ostentatiously displayed for all to see, is characteristic of the second half of the 19th century. It is reminiscent of Auguste Clésinger's "Woman Bitten by a Snake" (1847) (Musée d'Orsay) or Alexandre Schoenewerk's "Young Woman of Tarentum" (1871) (Musée d'Orsay). An early cast, signed in relief: "T. GECHTER". Louis-Philippe period, circa 1840. Dimensions: W: 38cm, D: 18cm, H: 29cm. This bronze is of high quality and in very good condition. One notices the fineness of the chiseling and the carefully treated details, characteristic of this romantic sculptor who was particularly fond of this kind of dynamic composition.
