The first engraving depicts a 19th-century hunting scene, showing a group of elegantly dressed men, accompanied by dogs and horses, moving through a dense and dramatic forest landscape. A hunter in a frock coat and top hat loads a firearm, while hunting dogs stir around him. In the background, a forest of imposing trees with detailed foliage is bathed in soft light. A pheasant appears to flee, startled by the hunters' presence.
The second engraving depicts an aristocratic hunting scene. It features an elegant hunter in a blue coat, his horse led by a groom, and two hunting dogs in a refined architectural setting.
Both engravings are hand-colored and embellished with gouache. They are signed in the lower center by Carle Vernet (1758-1836), a renowned French painter and lithographer specializing in hunting scenes, cavalry, and elegant carriages, in a style typical of realistic Romanticism, which emphasized aristocratic traditions and equestrian art. They are presented in blackened and gilded wooden frames.
Dimensions of the engravings as seen: H: 38 cm - W: 49 cm.
