François Jules Collignon was born in 1811 in Amersfoort, Utrecht, and died at the age of 35 in Bry-sur-Marne. A painter and steel engraver, he exhibited at the Salon des Aquarelles in 1850. One of his engravings, "La Chaumière" (The Thatched Cottage), is part of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's collection.
