Sculpture of a young woman in white marble, known as "Pensive Young Woman." Dressed in a loose-fitting coat with embroidery falling from her right shoulder, the young woman sits on a draped rock. She holds ears of wheat in her left hand while her right hand rests her chin. Her gaze is contemplative, her hair is tied in a turban, and her feet are bare. The scene is presented on a circular base of pink Brignolles marble. The marble is signed Pugi in relief beneath the base. Guglielmo Pugi (1850-1915) was an Italian sculptor specializing in direct carving of Carrara marble for export. He created female figures in the Art Nouveau style and is known for a bust of King Umberto I in Fiesole, a small town near Florence. 19th century, circa 1880. Dimensions: W: 31cm, D: 31cm, H: 63cm. In very good condition. The break at the base has been repaired.
