Allegorical bronze with a golden-brown patina depicting "The Thinker" by Émile-Louis Picault (1833-1915). The young man is seated on a rock in the company of an eagle, and holds a book marked: "C'est sur les hauts sommets que le penseur médite" ("It is on the high summits that the thinker meditates"). Titled and signed on the terrace. Early-edition cast with the stamp of the Syndicat des fabricants de bronzes unis, and the mark "BD Vrai Bronze Paris" debossed on the reverse. The bronze rests on a sea-green marble contresocle. H. without marble: 60.5cm. XIX° period, Circa: 1880 Dim: W:24cm, D:25cm, H:66cm. In good overall condition, the marble has minor chips.
