Allegorical figure in patinated bronze depicting a man holding a feather in his right hand, with a plaque engraved with a geometric design at his side. The draped man rests on a pedestal at the foot of which are oak and laurel branches, and a plaque on which is engraved "PRO MERITO". Signature of Emile-Louis Picault on the base. Emile Louis PICAULT (1833-1915) was a French sculptor and medalist, a pupil of the painter Royer. From 1863 onwards, he regularly exhibited allegorical, patriotic and mythological subjects at the Salon. His works are often accompanied by Latin or French sentences.
