An ormolu alcove cartel in the Louis XV style presenting a Love on a chariot pulled by a couple of doves in the clouds on a background of trellises. The rocaille decoration is topped by a star. The dial is enamelled in white with Roman numerals for the hours and Arabic numerals for the minutes and protected by a curved glass. The hands are treated as elegant vegetal scrolls.
The Louis XV style is characterized by its rocaille and movement elements. Decoration takes precedence over form, and curved lines over straight lines. Eighteenth-century bronze craftsmen took advantage of this to add a touch of fantasy to their compositions, blending rocaille motifs and mythological references. This 19th-century clock is reminiscent of the ornamentation of Louis XV bronzes.
