A pair of porcelain vases with gilt bronze mountings in the form of covered urns. The body is decorated with a round of young women draped in antique peplos and chiton. The individualised positions delicately render the movement of the dance. Above them is a frieze of meanders. The twisted foot decorated with vines rests on a square bronze base with four feet with flowers. The lid has a handle in the form of a pine cone. Both vases have an apocryphal mark of the Sèvres manufacture on the bottom of the body.
These Greek-style urns are characteristic of the return to classicism in the Louis XVI style. Influenced by archaeological discoveries in Pompeii and Herculaneum, craftsmen created objects inspired by Antiquity.
