Very large panoramic wallpaper panel in the style of the Zuber suites.
In the tradition of exotic panoramas that fascinated early 19th-century Europe, this work offers an exotic journey: lush landscapes, scenes of local life, picturesque costumes, tropical fauna...
This panel depicts a scene of everyday colonial life in a tropical landscape. In the center, an elegant horse-drawn carriage crosses the scene, preceded by a rider at a gallop, followed by a dog. To the left, a man leads a donkey laden with baskets; beside him, another figure runs barefoot. On the right, two female figures and a male figure in striped trousers stand. In the background, a majestic three-masted ship is anchored in the bay, with a mountainous landscape as a backdrop.
Zuber & Cie , founded in 1790 and located in Rixheim, Alsace, since 1797, is a renowned manufacturer of panoramic murals, hand-printed using traditional techniques. Zuber is the only factory in the world to have maintained the tradition of block printing for creating panoramic murals. This artisanal technique, using carved wooden blocks, gives each piece unparalleled quality and depth. The factory's archives contain approximately 130,000 documents, attesting to the richness and diversity of its creations over more than two centuries.
The wallpaper was originally glued to a panel. There are losses, wear and tear, and restorations throughout.
