Large brown patina bronze group after Claude Michel, known as Clodion (1738-1814), depicting two dancing bacchantes surrounded by three playful putti. The Bacchantes are crowned with vine leaves and draped in antique style. One of them plays the flute, while the other carries a tambourine-playing putto on her shoulders. At their feet, two other putti girded with vine leaves play with the thyrse, attribute of Bacchus. The joyful procession rests on a molded red marble base. Signed "CLODION" on the base. Circa: 1860
