Brown patina bronze sculpture "Sea Fairy" depicting a dancing female figure with butterfly wings twirling a drape around her as she gazes into a hand mirror. Standing on a large conch shell, she seems to be flying away, smiling. Her hair is held in a chignon adorned with a shell. The bronze is signed MADRASSI on one of the conch extensions. The sculpture pivots on a cherry-red marble base.
Luca MADRASSI (1848-1919) was a French sculptor of Italian origin. He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris before joining Carrier-Belleuse's studio. A highly imaginative artist, he exhibited at the Salon from 1979, winning numerous awards for his busts and allegorical and genre statues.
