Transition-style chest of drawers with a slightly raised center, in frisage veneer, opening at the waist with a drawer, and at the front with two wide drawers without rails. In furniture, frisage is a decorative technique in which veneer sheets are joined to create a diamond, chevron, fan, butterfly-wing, square, cross or diamond-point motif. Our chest of drawers is adorned with a diamond-shaped frieze. Ornamentation in chased and gilded bronze for the frames, key escutcheons, pull handles, uprights, base-lamp and sabots, with motifs of interlacing, florets, garlands and acanthus leaves. The fluted uprights are extended by four cambered claw feet. Veined marble top. Plate fixed in a drawer, marked: "Mobiliers décorations anciens et modernes Mercier Frères 100 Fg. St-Antoine Paris". Late 19th century, Circa: 1890 Dim: W:128cm, D:58cm, H:88cm. In very good condition, one small stain on the lower drawer.
