Ornamental bowl in chased and gilded bronze depicting Aurora dispelling the darkness, torch in hand. In Roman mythology, Aurora is the goddess of dawn and sister of the Sun. Every morning, she sets out in her chariot to bring light to gods and men. Here, she is adorned with jewels and wears a dress revealing her breasts. The cup symbolizes the Sun's chariot, to which a little Love is clinging. Cupid's presence refers to Aurora's love for Cephalus, who shares her feelings thanks to Cupid's intervention. The bowl is decorated with fluting, flowering branches and scrolls. It stands on a foot decorated with interlacing florets and a marble base. XIX° period, Circa: 1880 Dim: W:18cm, D:38cm, H:47cm. In very good condition. Two cracks restored on the marble base.
