Abstract metal sculpture of the Virgin and Child, made from recycled materials. The group rests on a small square base. Object recovery in art is a recent technique that portrays our current society of over-consumption and waste. Since 1914, with the precursor of this technique Marcel Duchamp and his "ready made" works, the recovery of objects in art has only evolved over time. Over-consumption and waste are put to good use in the creation of works, crafted solely from materials or objects that have already been used, and which are diverted from their usual use in the form of statues or paintings. "From Marcel Duchamp to Armand, César and Seo Young Deok, a Korean artist who creates human faces from bicycle chains. These artists, either through lack of financial means or by experimenting with this salvaging technique, have created works known the world over. However, this "art of recycling" is not just a search for waste, but also a whole lot of welding work, as in the case of Yves Carrey's statues. Indeed, these sculptures and statues are made from steel chains, springs, bolts, ball bearings, gears, engine parts and many other recycled metal parts. The elements are welded together piece by piece, polished and coated with a varnish to prevent corrosion. Today, this new art form is appreciated the world over.
