A gilt bronze and chased toilet mirror resting on a rectangular base supported by four shell-shaped feet. Supported by two stylized scrolls, the mirror frame is decorated with a Greek frieze with a flower in each corner. The top of the mirror is decorated with scrolls, flowers and shells. Under the Restoration, the decorative arts were designed to be pleasant and amiable, to charm rather than exalt the public to heroism. The warlike symbols of the Empire were replaced by sober decor, reflecting the peace and gentleness of life.
