MUSICIAN-PUTTI IN BRONZE PATINA AND MARBLE, 19TH CENTURY

Shaded brown patina bronze group depicting three putti on a rocky parterre dotted with wheat sheaves. Two are seated, playing drums and bagpipes, while the third is standing and dancing. He is dressed in a flowing drape and wears a necklace. The outlines of castanets can be seen in his hands. This allegorical scene illustrates the annual harvest festival in the countryside. The pyramidal composition gives perfect balance to this dynamic scene. Beautiful patina work. The ensemble rests on an oblong, stepped pink marble base. Circa: 1880.
