Large Louis XV-style desk stamped Maurice RINCK, in violet wood and rosewood veneer, richly decorated and marquetry, topped by a rectangular scalloped top covered in ochre leather. The leather is encircled by a gilded frieze of foliage and lilies, and enhanced by gilded bronzes with foliage motifs at the four corners. This rocaille-style flat desk opens with three drawers whose handles are embellished with gilded bronzes depicting various floral motifs. Each drawer closes with a key lock. The whole rests on four cabriole legs, flanked by four acanthus leaves in chased gilt bronzes and ending on gilt bronze sabots. This magnificent Louis XV desk is representative of this great period in French furniture. The lines are infinitely varied, and the sinuous shapes of the gilded bronzes contrast with the rigor of the preceding century. The desk was made by Maurice Rinck, son of cabinetmaker Eugène Rinck.
Founded in 1841, Rinck embodies French excellence in cabinetmaking. For over 150 years, five generations of master cabinetmakers and designers have reproduced the gestures of craftsmen of all eras. In the 1930s, Maurice Rinck understood the importance of the Art Deco trend and infused this style into his family's creations. It was in this way that he gave the House of Rinck its letters of nobility, and that the greatest decorators and designers of the time signed unique pieces, becoming a veritable heritage.
