Married to a rich banker at the age of 16, Juliette Récamier (1777-1849), a woman of spirit, received in her home, from the Directoire period until the July Monarchy, the greatest celebrities of the political, literary and artistic world. Her salon was one of the most prominent in Paris. In addition to her wit, she was also celebrated for her beauty. Nicknamed "the beauty of beauties", Juliette Récamier fascinated many artists, who painted her portrait.
