Two porcelain spindle-shaped vases with gold decoration of chestnut branches and chestnuts in their bogue, on a "bleu de Tours" background. The motif covering the neck and body of each vase is typical of the Art Nouveau decorations by ceramist Frédéric Gustave Asch (1856-1911). Active in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Asch is best known for his "bleu de Tours", a dark blue enamel similar to the famous "bleu de Sèvres". At his workshops in Tours, he produced vases in Tours blue enamel, decorated in gold with delicate naturalistic motifs, including chestnut branches. Our vases bear the "France" mark and the small axe for Gustave Asch under the base. One is numbered "105".
