A Napoleon III period gilt bronze and brass chimney screen with retractable grille. The central openwork post is decorated with shells, acanthus leaves, flowers, climbing olive branches and a woman's face. It is topped by a fire pot. It rests on scroll-shaped feet. The nine openwork brass leaves with geometrical patterns unfold to form a protective grid against sparks from the fire. Bars are used to hold the grate when the fireguard is closed.
