Elegant Empire-period inkwell featuring a rectangular base in griotte red marble, embellished with gilded bronzes. The main decoration, of great finesse, represents a winged figure in chased and gilded bronze carrying a vase, surrounded by two corolla-shaped ink cups. The front features two wild beasts drinking from a central fountain. The whole rests on feline paw feet. A model of remarkable craftsmanship, characteristic of the refined taste of the Empire period.
Condition report: in very good condition with original mercury gilding.
