Gilded and patinated bronze mantel set, the clock adorned with Chronos holding the scythe and a female figure draped in antique style, symbolizing "l'Emploi du temps". The white enamelled dial is surrounded by flowering waterfalls and foliage. The clock rests on a base adorned with oval friezes and a wide scroll base decorated with acanthus leaves, centered on a female face wearing a shell. Original movement, cleaned, overhauled and in working order. The candelabras, with five leafy arms, are supported by a nymph standing on shell foliage. Each candelabra rests on a four-legged base in the form of foliate scrolls. Napoleon III period. Our clock is inspired by a highly successful model, numerous examples of which can be found in 18th-century inventories: the clock known as "à la Geoffrin" or "l'Emploi du temps". On a rectangular base, this clock features a seated young woman reading a book while leaning against the dial. She is dressed in an antique-style draped gown and coiffed in a chignon. The female figure symbolizes the "Use of Time". Laurent Guyard created this model with a Musson movement for Marie-Thérèse Geoffrin. The female figure is directly inspired by her portrait. Madame Geoffrin organized one of the most fashionable salons in Paris, where she entertained artists, scholars, writers and philosophers.
