Imposing octagonal Portor marble column with four concave angles cut on the length. This pedestal is enhanced by a doucine tray (48 x 38 cm). The whole rests on a carved base with several levels. This sellette was made at the beginning of the 20th century and will enhance your sculptures and antique vases.
Portor marble is a rare and noble element used since antiquity for its unique black color veined with deep yellow. Exploited by King Louis XIV for the decoration of Versailles, it was used in the creation of luxury furniture, objets d'art and mantels in the 17th, 18th and 20th centuries during the Art Deco period. It is notably found on the Levasseur commode top, acquired by the Comte d'Artois in the Louis XV bedroom at the Château de Versailles. With its limited availability today, Portor remains a prestigious material that continues to find its place in luxurious interiors.
